Case Study: Protecting the world's largest site for offshore renewable energy technology

The challenge, solution and success of protecting Wave Hub in the Atlantic Ocean off the North coast of Cornwall.

Case Study: Protecting the world's largest site for offshore renewable energy technology

Who: Wave Hub
Sector: Renewable Energy
Location: Atlantic Ocean

The Challenge
Located in the UK, Wave Hub is the world's largest and most technologically advanced site for the testing and development of offshore renewable energy technology. Wave Hub itself is a subsea electrical grid connection point off the north coast of Cornwall, providing the electrical infrastructure to support developers of Marine Energy Converter devices. Wave Hub allows developers to test devices in a monitored marine environment and export generated electricity via the Western Power Distribution substation at Hayle.

The Solution
AssetMonitor protects 8km sq of seabed, 55 metres beneath the surface. This area, 10 miles off the coast of St. Ives, is home to Wave Hub's subsea electrical grid connection point.

Customer Success
"AssetMonitor is a powerful safeguarding and safety management software package. We use the tool principally as a marine co-ordination platform, but the asset-monitoring and protection are a vital secondary function." Julius Besterman, Marine Operations Manager
